TALKING POINTS: Koeman's post-Spurs press conference

By SFC Media time Sun 26 Apr Club

Ronald Koeman spoke to the media following Southampton's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Premier League at St Mary's.

Here's what the Saints boss had to say:

On the outcome of the game…

It was a fantastic football game. I enjoyed it very much. Good football, two teams who played to win the game out of good organisation, good individual players.

Maybe we had the better chances in the game but this is the way how I like to play football and of course to play at home on two occasions you go in front in the score, 1-0 and 2-1, a little bit disappointed, but for the rest I am very proud of the team because of good football.

We showed our level, we showed our ambition and we scored a great second goal. That’s football, but playing two times at home in front, you expect to win the game.

Maybe one moment in not a good defensive organisation, too much space to Nacer Chadli and he punished us but it can happen.

On whether Spurs’ first goal was handball…

I saw it at half-time. Okay, but if the referee gets that possibility to see that at half-time he will give handball, but it was going so fast it is so difficult for the referee to see exactly what happened.

It’s handball, but I think it was too fast for the referee to see it was exactly handball.

On whether Spurs were lucky to get a draw…

Not lucky, because we need to shoot more on target. If you don’t shoot on target you don’t score and that’s the quality of Tottenham – they get really one big chance of Chadli.

Maybe we get two or three good chances; two times Steven Davis normally is a good finisher, but not then. That’s football.

On Sadio Mané’s performance…

I think it was very good. He was dangerous. He is playing very good out of that position behind Graziano Pellè. He made good movements, good runs and was very dangerous to Tottenham.

On getting the right reaction after Stoke City…

It was very good. Always you can lose and we were disappointed about last week but the reaction was amazing of the team and real competitive to Tottenham.

Maybe still a little bit better and that says enough.

On the two chances for Steven Davis…

Maybe with the confidence what Graziano had today he shall score about that situation. It was great play with Graziano and Sadio but you have to shoot on target and sometimes we are missing too much in that kind of opportunity.

It’s not easy to score but at least you have to shoot on target.
