Pellè wishes Under-21s well in cup final

Graziano Pellè has passed on his message of support for Southampton’s under-21s in their cup final date with Blackburn Rovers at St Mary’s this evening.

Pellè is well aware of the progress that the club’s youngsters have made over the course of the campaign, but believes a trophy win would further increase the players’ self-assurance at an important stage in their careers.

“They deserve it (to be in the final), because they have had an unbelievable season,” said the striker.

“Southampton is now famous for the academy, and they are doing well – every year they do something important. They bring a lot of good players and they come to training with us always.

“It’s not easy, though. I remember when I was young that every time you go in the first team you feel a bit of pressure, but they always look confident and you can see this confidence on the field now.”

Saints held the Lancashire outfit to a goalless draw at Ewood Park a week ago, and a positive result at St Mary’s this evening will see Martin Hunter’s side pick up their first silverware of the season.

“They got a good result there and they have to show now here, and I give them the best luck, because it’s important,” he said.

“When you win something when you are young, you come to the first-team with the right confidence and they deserve to because they are amazing guys.”
