It was a winless weekend for Southampton’s players out on loan, as Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth, Swindon Town and Millwall were all denied victories.
Lloyd Isgrove and Artur Boruc were both involved as Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on Saturday.
Isgrove, who has featured regularly since joining the Owls on a temporary deal until the end of the season, played just over an hour and helped his side into a 1-0 lead through Kieran Lee in the first half.
Six minutes after Isgrove was substituted, Bournemouth levelled through Yann Kermorgant before Matt Ritchie looked to have won it with a fine strike in the 84th minute.
But deep into stoppage time Wednesday were awarded a penalty and Chris Maguire stepped up to beat Boruc from the spot and earn the away side a share of the spoils.
The result leaves Bournemouth second in the Championship with two games to play, while Sheffield Wednesday, who also have two matches remaining, sit 12th.
Jack Stephens was unable to prevent Swindon Town losing 1-0 to already-relegated Yeovil Town at the County Ground on Saturday.
James Berrett’s goal just before the hour mark was enough to condemn Swindon, who were missing Jordan Turnbull through suspension, to defeat.
The Robins are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Walsall to the County Ground looking to build up some momentum ahead of the play-offs.
Jos Hooiveld was back from his recent injury to take a place on the bench as Millwall battled to a 0-0 draw away to Cardiff City.
The point leaves Millwall four points adrift of Rotherham United with three games of their season remaining. The Lions face Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
Hull City and Gaston Ramírez were not in action this weekend due to Liverpool’s FA Cup commitments. The Tigers face Brendan Rodgers’s side a week on Tuesday.
Dani Osvaldo will hope to be involved for Boca Juniors this evening when they take on Lanus, looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to ten matches.
