Five of Saints’ out-on-loan players enjoyed success over the festive period, with Jack Stephens, Jordan Turnbull, Artur Boruc, Will Britt and Gaston Ramírez all helping their loan clubs to wins.

Stephens and Turnbull helped Swindon Town to two impressive victories, winning against Walsall and Port Vale to keep them second in League 1.

On Boxing Day, the Robins beat Walsall 4-1, with Stephens and Turnbull playing the full 90 minutes, before the duo both played the full game on Sunday, helping keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Vale.

Boruc also enjoyed a successful weekend, keeping two clean sheets as Bournemouth continued their push for promotion in the Championship. On Boxing Day, the Cherries beat Fulham 2-0 at home, before repeating the scoreline on Sunday away to Millwall.

Fellow goalkeeper Britt also picked up a clean sheet on Boxing Day, as Maidenhead United beat Hayes & Yeading 2-0, before drawing 2-2 with Eastbourne Borough on Sunday to move up to 13th in the Conference South table.

There was also some festive cheer for Ramírez on Boxing Day as he helped Hull City end their winless run with a goal in a 3-1 victory away to Sunderland. Ramírez cancelled out Adam Johnson’s early strike, before the Tigers went on to score two second-half goals to seal the win.

Two days later however, Ramírez was unable to prevent Hull losing 1-0 to Leicester City, as he made way for Nikica Jelavić at half-time.

Jake Sinclair was an unused substitute for Hibernian as they beat Rangers 4-0 on Saturday in the Scottish Championship, while Jos Hooiveld wasn’t involved for Norwich City in their win against Millwall or defeat to Reading.

Striker Dani Osvaldo was not in action over the festive period for Inter Milan, but he could be involved in their friendly with PSG on Tuesday evening.
