Ryan Bertrand was delighted with Southampton’s professionalism as they saw off the challenge of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Bertrand got his second goal of the campaign to make it 2-0 to Saints after Sadio Mané had opened the scoring, before Toby Alderweireld made it 3-0.
Palace did pull a late goal back, but Bertrand was pleased to make it back-to-back wins after victory against Everton last weekend.
Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, Bertrand said: “I’m very happy, first and foremost with the win. It’s obviously good to get the back-to-back wins against good opposition.
“It’s a difficult place to come, the boys have showed fantastic professionalism in the way they went about the job. They were extremely focused and it has put us right back on track.
“It means we can go into the next couple of games with our heads held high and really enjoy it.
“We managed to get an early goal from Sadio and in the second half one of the things we said was start even faster than them. They were 1-0 down at home, we knew they would come out raring to go.
“It was important we rose above that and got the goal. Scoring is the best feeling in the world so to score and help the team get the three points is the main thing.”
While Bertrand felt the belief was always there during a difficult run without a win, he says it was important to bounce back with good performance against Everton and Crystal Palace.
“It’s always difficult when you’re not getting the results to keep the faith,” he added, “but it was there and the confidence was too. The only major disappointments were Manchester City and Sheffield United.
“The other ones we deserved more, if not the win, we deserved more than a loss. It was important to get back to winning ways. It was a great performance against Everton last week and it was equally as good against Palace.”
