James's England can't crack South Korea

James Ward-Prowse and England were held to a 1-1 draw in their Toulon Tournament match with South Korea on Wednesday, which dashed their hopes of reaching the final.

The Saints midfielder captained a side that took an early lead through a third-minute goal courtesy of Fulham’s Cauley Woodrow.

England’s opponents for the evening pulled themselves level through a second-half Chang Min strike before a late Young Lions onslaught unfortunately failed to yield a winner.

The draw leaves third-placed England five points behind Group B leaders Brazil with just one game to play, leaving Gareth Southgate’s side with the third-placed play-off to qualify for.

South Korea currently occupy second place – the position that sees a side clash with the opposing group’s team in the same spot – but have played all their games while England trail by one point with a game in-hand.

Qatar are the other competitors to snatch qualification, although they sit three points behind South Korea with inferior goal difference and table-toppers Brazil to play on Friday.

England’s final game of the group takes place on the same day against bottom-placed Colombia – kick-off 4.15pm BST.
