Nathaniel Clyne says Saints played with a sense of freedom in today’s victory over Everton.
The full-back collected the Barclays Man of the Match award after helping the side secure their second successive clean sheet as own-goals from Toffees defenders Antolin Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman secured a 2-0 victory.
And Clyne was happy with how matters were played out in what was the side’s penultimate home game of the 2013/14 campaign.
“We just got out there and attacked because we had nothing to lose,” Clyne told BT Sport after the game.
“We just played our game and enjoyed it. We created a lot of chances today and got the two goals.”
Even with two games still to be played in the current campaign, the 23-year-old is already looking to the future – and says European qualification will be a realistic aim.
“This is a club on the up and I am just happy to be a part of it,” enthused Clyne.
“We have a lot of young attacking players here that are coming in so if we can keep pushing on we could be up near the European spots.”
