Davis earns Northern Ireland a point

Saints midfielder Steven Davis scored the equaliser as Northern Ireland ended their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw in Israel.

The skipper struck a 73rd-minute leveller to lift his nation off the bottom of their group and to end an unsuccessful spell on a positive note.

Israel had gone ahead in Ramat Gan through Eden Ben Besat's goal two minutes before the interval.

But Davis marked his 64th international appearance by driving home from the edge of the area to secure a point.

The 28-year-old now heads back to England to prepare for Southampton's Barclays Premier League game at Manchester United this weekend.
