Gueye is booked for a challenge on Aribo, 25 yards out.

76’

Pickford almost caught out...

Piling on the pressure 👊

It's all one way at the moment, as Saints search for an equaliser.

73’

Everton substitution: Tom Davies replaces Amadou Onana

And a change in midfield for Frank Lampard's side.

73’

Everton substitution: Anthony Gordon replaces Dwight McNeil

A switch for the visitors, as goal scorer McNeil is replaced.

72’

So close! 😱

It looks destined to be a goal as Adams finds Adam Armstrong with acres of space in the box, but after taking a touch his shot is pushed around the post by Pickford and Everton survive.

70’

A chance for Arma!

Walker-Peters tees the ball up for Armstrong on the penalty spot, but the striker doesn't connect properly and his shot cannons into the floor and bounces over the bar.

69’

Brilliant, Gav 👏

McNeil plays Gray through on goal, but the Saints stopper is quick off of his line to drop down low and block the winger's shot.

66’

Southampton substitution: Samuel Edozie replaces Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Here he is. Maitland-Niles's home debut comes to a close.

66’

Keep pushing 👊

It's a frantic second half at St Mary's, with Saints pushing for a leveller after three goals in five minutes.

63’

Adams volleys wide 😩

It sits up perfectly on the edge of the box for the striker to hit on the volley, but it's a few yards wide as Saints look to respond.

61’

Ćaleta-Car heads at goal

A recycled corner sees Stuart Armstrong swing a ball into the middle, but Ćaleta-Car's glancing header is an easy one for Pickford.

60’

Southampton substitution: Adam Armstrong replaces Sékou Mara

A double change is completed with Armstrong replacing Mara up front.

59’

Southampton substitution: Romain Perraud replaces Juan Larios

Larios's full Premier League debut comes to an end, as Perraud is introduced.

56’

Onana heads wide

Close to a third for the visitors, as Coleman's cross is headed wide by Onana who arrived late in the box.

McNeil turns it around

Moments after Saints went close to re-taking the lead, Everton pounce at the other end. Iwobi's ball from the right comes all the way through to McNeil, who lashes a strike into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

53’

GOAL

Dwight McNeil (53’) | 1 2

Coady converts an instant leveller

Everton hit back immediately. Gray's free-kick from wide out on the left is headed back across goal by Onana, with Coady perfectly placed to smash home from a yard out.

GOAL

Conor Coady (51’) | 1 1

GOALSCORER 7 Joe Aribo

GET IN THERE JOE! 💥

It's emphatic from Saints' number seven! Adams squares the ball to the Nigerian on the edge of the box, who takes a touch and drills an effort into the bottom corner. GET IN THERE!

Into the second half 👊

Play resumes in SO14. It's all still to play for...

A look through the lens 📸

Action from the opening 45 minutes at St Mary's.

HALF TIME: Saints 0-0 Everton

It's goalless at the break, a scoreline that the hosts will likely be the happier with given proceedings. Frank Lampard's side have seen plenty of the ball at St Mary's, but were unable to truly test Gavin Bazunu, with Damarai Gray's free-kick that flew just wide the closest that either side has come to scoring.

44’

Bazunu fumbles 😬

Bazunu comes to claim McNeil's corner but drops the ball upon impact with the ground, but Everton can't capitalise and Maupay eventually miscues for a goal-kick.

42’

Armstrong again...

It's a chance for Stu, who controls Walker-Peters's cross before seeing his strike deflect off of Coady and into the arms of Pickford.

41’

Stu poses a threat

Our Flying Scotsman almost picks out Mara at the near post, but is afforded a second chance to cross moments later, with Tarkowski getting a touch that takes it into the arms of Pickford.

39’

Maupay gets a head on target

Gray's corner finds Maupay at the back post, but off balance, the striker's header is straight into the arms of Bazunu.

38’

KWP on the cover

Coleman hangs up a cross towards the back post, but Walker-Peters is on hand to bravely head over his own crossbar.

35’

Saints spring to life

A turnover in possession sees Larios afforded time to cross, but Walker-Peters's attempted cutback at the back post is hacked clear by Tarkowski.

Digging in 💪

It's a good spell for Frank Lampard's side, with Saints having to dig in at St Mary's.

29’

Toffees test Saints again

It's all coming down the left for Everton. Once again, Gray drives to the byline and looks for Maupay in the middle, but Walker-Peters blocks the cross before Ćaleta-Car clears.

26’

Bazunu called into action

Once again, Gray looks liveliest for the visitors. The winger drifts inside from the left, dribbling past Bella-Kotchap, before firing an effort straight at Bazunu from the edge of the box.

24’

Bella-Kotchap blasts wide

Intercepting an Everton pass midway into the Toffees half, the German international decides to have a go from long range, but his attempt is comfortably wide.

22’

Bazunu does enough

Gray's dipping cross to the near post is aimed at Coady, but Bazunu dives in front of the Everton defender to get a touch to the ball and avert the danger.

Home debuts 😇

The trio of Ćaleta-Car, Maitland-Niles and Larios get to work at St Mary's for the first time.

13’

Gray looks to turn provider

A passage of play ends with Gray swinging in a dangerous cross from the left, but Bella-Kotchap gets a head to it to only concede a corner.

8’

Gray has Bazunu scrambling

Gray's free-kick from 25 yards is mightily close to Bazunu's top corner, but the ball flies inches wide with the Saints stopper sprawling.

7’

Yellow Card for Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Southampton)

It's an early booking for Maitland-Niles on his home debut, as the midfielder goes in late on Gueye 25 yards out.

6’

Side-netting for Saints!

It's a fluid attack from the home side. Armstrong's ball is collected on the edge of the box by Mara, who slides in strike partner Adams, whose shot is into the side-netting with Pickford doing well to narrow the angle.

2’

A first Toffees attack

Everton are first onto the front foot, as Iwobi's cross from the left is tamely headed into the arms of Bazunu by Onana, with Larios doing enough to disrupt the midfielder's attempt.

from the long-term injuries, we still need to wait for them to come back. roméo will take a few more weeks, and tino not this year, maybe next year, but they are both on the pitch. there is a big difference between running in straight lines and playing football.
