TOT vs SOU As It Happened
Key moments so far
- Saints score twice in three minutes to snatch victory late on at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
- Elyounoussi heads Saints level with 11 minutes left, before Adams nets with a carbon copy
- Spurs led twice, through Bednarek's own goal in the first half and Son in the second
- Broja equalised in first period dominated by visitors; last-gasp Bergwijn goal disallowed
congrats to everybody who was in the stadium, we saw an unbelievable game. i'm here now for three years - i think this was by far the best performance we have shown. the first half was unbelievable, we must score three or four goals. it's a pity we only scored once, and it's hard to defend against their quality, but every player did exactly what we needed them to do.
ralph hasenhüttlsouthampton manager
we could've won it in the first half - we had that many chances - but we got over the line in the end and that's all that matters. we're buzzing, but we've got to take this into the weekend now.

FULL TIME: Tottenham 2-3 Southampton
WHAT A WIN! Saints survived a very late VAR decision, as Steven Bergwijn's stoppage-time leveller was cancelled out, but few could begrudge them victory. The visitors trailed twice, through Jan Bednarek's own goal and Son Heung-Min's 70th-minute strike. Armando Broja had equalised in a first half Saints dominated, before late headers from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Ché Adams snatched an amazing win.
Southampton substitution: Ibrahima Diallo replaces Mohamed Elyounoussi
Diallo comes on as Saints try to run down the clock.
VAR Decision: Goal awarded for Tottenham Hotspur [Steven Bergwijn] was cancelled
The goal is ruled out! Goalscorer Bergwijn had just strayed offside from Romero's knockdown and Saints survive. Two minutes of stoppage time remain.
Bergwijn equalises
Kane's deep cross is headed back across goal by Romero and tucked in by Bergwijn from close range.
GOAL
Steven Bergwijn (+2’) | 3 – 3

6️⃣ added minutes...
Still a big chunk of time left yet.
Southampton substitution: Theo Walcott replaces Armando Broja
Saints' second change is to replace Broja, scorer of the first-half equaliser.
Southampton substitution: Shane Long replaces Ché Adams
The Irishman comes on with time running out for the hosts.
SAINTS TAKE THE LEAD!!!
Wow wow wow! It's 3-2 to Saints! Almost a carbon copy of Elyounoussi's goal, as Ward-Prowse delivers another brilliant first-time cross, and this time Adams is there to head home at the far post!
GOOOAL!!!
Ché Adams (81’) | 2 – 3
We're level again!
Ward-Prowse delivers a beauty of a first-time cross, and Elyounoussi throws himself at the ball to score with a flying downward header!
GOOOAL!!!
Mohamed Elyounoussi (79’) | 2 – 2
Yellow Card for Romain Perraud (Southampton)
The Frenchman picks up a booking.
Broja fires over
Great chance for Saints, who break with Broja and Adams. The Albanian opts to go alone, but drills his shot over the bar from the edge of the box.
Saints feel hard done by
Hasenhüttl is unimpressed that a foul on Broja was not punished in the build up to Son's goal. VAR did check the incident, but the goal stands. Saints have 15 minutes to salvage something from this game.
Son slides Spurs in front
Kane drops deep and threads the ball through for Moura on the right, whose low cross is turned in by Son from eight yards.
GOAL
Heung-Min Son (69’) | 2 – 1

Ward-Prowse shot blocked
Saints break with purpose as Broja finds Adams, whose cutback falls kindly for Ward-Prowse to strike. It's a thunderous shot, but Romero gets in the way and makes a brave block.
Tottenham Hotspur substitution: Rodrigo Bentancur replaces Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
It's a Premier League debut for January signing Bentancur, who is a Uruguayan international. Former Saint Højbjerg departs.
Yellow Card for Davinson Sánchez (Tottenham Hotspur)
Sanchez takes out Adams on the touchline for an obvious booking.
Kane misses gilt-edged chance
What an opportunity for the usually-clinical marksman, who heads Reguilon's teasing cross down into the ground but sees it bounce up over the crossbar from close range. A massive let-off for Saints.
Romeu fires over
After Armstrong's shot is deflected behind for a corner, Romeu tries his luck from distance but it sails into the stand.
Salisu makes a crucial interception
The defender nips in to steal possession from Son in the penalty area. Already more intent about Spurs since half time.
The second half is under way...
Can Saints sustain their level?
HALF TIME: Tottenham 1-1 Southampton
It's all square at the break, but Saints must be wondering how they aren't in front. Spurs took the lead when Jan Bednarek inadvertently put through his own net after 18 minutes, but since then the visitors have dominated. Armando Broja quickly drew them level, while there have been great chances for Ché Adams, Stuart Armstrong and Broja, with Romain Perraud also cracking a shot against the bar.
Perraud hits the bar!
What a first-half performance this has been from Saints... Salisu and Armstrong both threaten from Ward-Prowse corners, before Perraud hits a rocket from 20 yards that crashes against the crossbar! The hosts can't wait for half time.
Just wide from Armstrong!
The midfielder hits a snapshot from 20 yards that bounces just wide of Lloris's goal. The keeper hadn't moved a muscle and was relieved to see it miss the target.
What a chance...
Walker-Peters catches out the Spurs defence with a ball over the top for Broja, who goes clean through on goal but drags his shot past the post with only Lloris to beat.
Armstrong goes close!
Elyounoussi's left-wing cross picks out Armstrong, whose downward header skids off the turf and forces a flying save from Lloris. Saints' response to falling behind has been outstanding.
Saints back on level terms!
It's an excellent instinctive finish from Broja, who turns in Perraud's low cross from the left. Saints straight back in this!
GOOOAL!!!
Armando Broja (23’) | 1 – 1
Saints respond well
The visitors threatened to get a goal back straight from kick-off, and have come close again through Ward-Prowse, who sends Lloris sprawling to his right to tip the ball around the post.
Spurs take the lead
Højbjerg's low cross is intended for Son, but Bednarek gets the final touch and inadvertently finds the back of his own net from six yards.
OWN GOAL
Jan Bednarek (18’) | 1 – 0

What a save from Forster!
Spurs have really started to take control of this game now, and Saints have their goalkeeper to thank for keeping them on level terms. Son feeds Kane to his right, whose low cross picks out Reguilón with a glorious chance to score, but Forster spreads himself and makes a crucial stop.
Saints saved by the flag
Romero heads in Son's free-kick from the right, but Saints kept a strong high line and the Spurs man had just strayed offside.
Forster saves from Kane
The England captain has his first shot of the night. It's an ambitious effort from distance that bounces awkwardly in front of Forster, but the keeper's handling doesn't let him down.
Saints firmly on the front foot
This has been a hugely encouraging start from Saints, who have Spurs pinned back inside their own half.
Adams denied from close range
What a chance! Elyounoussi chips a cross to the far post, where Adams arrives and looks certain to score, but Lloris gets down quickly to make a smart save and deny the striker from just a couple of yards out.
We're up and running!
Saints have kicked off and we're into the action!
The teams are out!
The two sets of players have emerged from the tunnel to a crescendo of noise inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Kick-off is just moments away...
