BHA vs SOU As It Happened
Key moments so far
- Saints recover from 2-0 down to draw level at Brighton
- Brighton take early lead through Welbeck before Salisu's own goal just before half time
- Ward-Prowse pulls one back from a free-kick, then rifles one in from open play
- Livramento leaves the field on a stretcher with serious-looking injury in first half
FULL TIME: Brighton 2-2 Southampton
It's all over at the Amex, where Saints' good record continues with a point from 2-0 down. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring inside two minutes, before Mohammed Salisu's own goal left Saints with a mountain to climb in the latter stages of the first half. There was still enough time before the interval for James Ward-Prowse to halve the deficit, before the skipper rifled in a second to earn a draw.
15.59Brighton & Hove Albion substitution: Jeremy Sarmiento replaces Neal Maupay
A late change for the hosts - their final sub.
Romeu goes close
Saints spread the ball wide for Armstrong, whose cross is headed over by Romeu. That was another decent chance for the visitors to win it.
Walker-Peters shoots over
Redmond digs out a cross that falls kindly for Walker-Peters, but it's not an easy chance for the defender on his left foot, and he sends his shot flying into the stand.
Brighton finishing strongly
The hosts have found a second wind and are the team in the ascendancy now heading into the closing stages.
Southampton substitution: Armando Broja replaces Shane Long
Broja is on for the final 10 minutes.
Groß scores... but the flag is up
That's a let-off for Saints. Groß spins on the edge of the box and buries a low shot into the bottom corner, but the German was fractionally offside in the build-up, which VAR confirms.
Forster saves from March
A rare attack for Brighton earns a corner, which Forster punches out to March. The substitute finds space to shoot on the edge of the box, but it's an easy save for the keeper.
More Saints pressure
It's total dominance at the moment, as Saints win another corner. Is there a winning goal in this game?
Southampton substitution: Stuart Armstrong replaces Nathan Tella
Tella has stayed down a couple of times, and his race is run.
Brighton & Hove Albion substitution: Solly March replaces Adam Webster
Potentially a formation change for Brighton, who have been outplayed since half time.
Brighton & Hove Albion substitution: Pascal Groß replaces Enock Mwepu
It's a double change for the hosts...
Our captain ♥️
James Ward-Prowse has been the driving force behind this comeback. All to play for in the final 30 minutes!
Saints are level!
He's done it again! This time it's from open play, as Tella races away down the left and squares the ball for Romeu, whose backheel is perfect for Ward-Prowse to rifle a sweet strike into the bottom corner from 20 yards!
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (54’) | 2 – 2
Saints on the front foot
That goal back just before half time has definitely given Saints a lift. Long finds space in the box only to be flagged offside, before Ward-Prowse's fizzing shot from range is well blocked.
We're back under way...
The second half is up and running. Come on, Saints!
HALF TIME: Brighton 2-1 Southampton
Overall a half to forget for Saints, who fell behind to Danny Welbeck's early goal, before Mohammed Salisu inadvertently doubled Brighton's lead just before half time. In between the goals, Tino Livramento struck a post but then received a nasty-looking injury that could mean a premature end to his season. In the added time that followed, James Ward-Prowse buried a free-kick to give Saints hope.
The skipper pulls one back!
It's like clockwork, isn't it? Ward-Prowse eyes up the target from 25 yards and buries a low free-kick, deceiving Sánchez with a strike to the side of the wall. It skids up off the turf and finds the net via the post. Game on!
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (45+4’) | 2 – 1
Tella brought down in shooting range
Could this be a lifeline for Saints? Tella turns sharply on the edge of the box and wins a free-kick. It's very central, 25 yards from goal. No prizes for guessing who will take...
Salisu puts through his own net
It's an awful time for Saints to concede. Excellent work from Welbeck as he crosses the halfway line and spreads the play wide to Trossard, whose attempted return pass is intercepted by Salisu, but the defender inadvertently beats Forster as he slides in to clear.
OWN GOAL
Mohammed Salisu (45’) | 2 – 0

Welbeck so close to a second
Maupay dispossesses Romeu, who is then beaten in the box by Trossard. The Belgian's low cross reaches Welbeck in the six-yard box, but Forster is in the right place to make a point-blank save and smuggle the ball to safety.
Southampton substitution: Romain Perraud replaces Tino Livramento
Livramento leaves the field on a stretcher. That was a long delay, but Perraud is on and Walker-Peters will now switch to right-back. Fingers crossed for you, Tino.
Livramento receiving treatment
This looks a nasty one for Livramento. The right-back went down off the ball with what looked like an awkward landing. He's still down and the physios are on... let's hope this isn't as serious as it looks.
Adams heads over
James Ward-Prowse delivers a teasing cross from a wide free-kick, but Adams doesn't get his timing quite right, and the ball loops harmlessly on to the top of the net.
Saints responding well to early setback
We've had some technical problems at the Amex Stadium but will be bringing you regular updates from here on in. Saints fell behind to Danny Welbeck's second-minute goal, but have responded well with two half-chances for Shane Long, before Tino Livramento struck the post and the rebound narrowly eluded the stretching Ché Adams.
Away day scenes 💯
What an away day this was! José Fonte headed a late winner for Saints at the Withdean Stadium en route to promotion to the Championship in 2011...
13.46Fading memories! 👂
It's the answer to our first poll of the day: the scorer of Saints' first goal at the Amex Stadium was in fact Steven Davis with this header in 2017. This one caught most of you out - well done to the 8% of voters who knew it was Davo!
13.27Thanks for your votes, Saints fans! 🗳
With 47% of the vote, Ché Adams was the winner of the team selection poll. Ralph Hasenhüttl agrees - the striker is back in the starting line-up in a new-look Saints attack alongside Shane Long, flanked by Nathan Redmond and Nathan Tella.
13.056️⃣ changes for Saints at Brighton

In come Mohammed Salisu, Tino Livramento, Nathan Redmond, Nathan Tella, Ché Adams and Shane Long, as Lyanco, Yan Valery, Romain Perraud, Stuart Armstrong, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Armando Broja all drop to the bench. It looks like Saints will revert to a back four as a result.
