14.07Romeu is your MOTM
A quick poll by those Saints fans following the matchday blog have voted Oriol Romeu as man of the match. His goal was certainly a great finish to secure the three points!
14.04Full-Time: Saints 2-0 West Brom
It was all pretty straight forward in the end for Saints as they beat West Brom at St Mary's and make it back to back wins in the Premier League.
Bednarek with the flick!
Ward-Prowse delivers in the free-kick and Jan Bednarek climbs highest to get a small touch but Sam Johnstone just about pushes it over for a corner. The corner is put in and Romeu attempts another volley! But it's blocked.
TEAM
Saints on their way to making it back to back wins before the International break!
Robson-Kanu injured
Substitute Hal Robson-Kanu has hurt his arm and seems in pain but West Brom have used all their subs. The striker has been strapped up and will play on here.
WHAT A VOLLEY!
Well, Saints aren't holding out for the 1-0 lead! It's 2-0 and it's Romeu with a great finish! Armstrong floats the ball into the area and Romeu just appears from nowhere to volley in under pressure.
GOOOAL!!!
Oriol Romeu (69’) | 2 – 0
A slow start to the second half
Saints haven't been in full gear like the first half but, after the performance against Burnley where Saints concentrated on keeping the lead in the second 45, maybe the same approach will be seen here at St Mary's in the final 20 minutes or so.
Saints attacking at pace
The ball is bouncing around at pace but Saints are unable to create a chance. Danny Ings plays a one-two with Che Adams but it comes to nothing. The ball lands to Redmond who attacks the full back but his pull back can't reach Armstrong.
Redmond is back
Nathan Redmond has replaced Moussa Djenepo here for his first Premier League appearance since the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace. The winger was injured in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brentford a few days later.
Good work by Saints
Danny Ings takes control of the ball and pushes towards the West Brom area. He feeds in Che Adams with a back heel who runs out of room as it goes out for a corner.
The corner is then cleared easily.
West Brom pressing
Saints haven't started the half like they finished the last. They've been unable to get out of their own half as West Brom push for an equaliser.
Another chance
Pereira gets another cross in from the free-kick and West Brom have some players free but none can connect as it goes out safely.
Clever free-kick
Instead of playing the free-kick into the box, Pereira plays it alongside the wall and plays in Diangana who gets a shot away and makes McCarthy pull off his first save of the game.
Yellow Card for Moussa Djenepo (Southampton)
Half chance for Baggies
West Brom cross from a free-kick and it's cleared just about by Saints for a corner. West Brom though can't take advantage from the resulting corner.
Second half underway
West Brom kick us off in the second half with Saints leading 1-0. Can Ralph Hasenhuttl's men claim the three points? Find out in the next 45 minutes.
Half-Time: Saints 1-0 West Brom
A deserved lead and it could be more but Saints will be happy to have got the goal just before the break. Moussa Djenepo with the strike here at St Mary's!
Celebrations for Djenepo
It'll be a much welcome goal for Moussa after those early strikes at the beginning of last season. It's his first goal since 14 September 2019.
OOOOO MOUSSA DJENEPO!
Ings tries to play in Adams but a West Brom defender deflects it into the path of Djenepo. The Mali International Cryuff turns his defender to make space for the shot and puts it into the corner. What a time to score and well deserved!
GOOOAL!!!
Moussa Djenepo (41’) | 1 – 0
Armstrong shoots over
Stuart Armstrong runs with the ball up to the edge of the area and takes a pop at goal but it goes flying over the bar. Can Saints get the goal they deserve before half-time?
Ingsy header pushed away
Sam Johnstone has been in fine form much to the annoyance of Saints so far. Here is the save from that Ings header just moments ago.
Now Adams turn!
Adams latches onto a West Brom mistake, gets a shot away when central to the goal but drags it wide. Saints with all the chances.
INGS AGAIN!
Another save from Johnstone! Ward-Prowse delivers a ball in from a free-kick and Ings gets free, directs his header low across the goal but is met by the West Brom keeper. Great header sadly met by a great save.
Yellow Card for Jake Livermore (West Bromwich Albion)
Saints break after a free-kick and Che Adams runs at the defence but Livermore brings him down to stop the attack.
The Boss. 🧢
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will be happy with the start here from his side. Two decent chances and limiting West Brom to no real chances so far. Saints dominating possession but West Brom have shown the signs of being good on the counter that Hasenhuttl warned about in his pre match press conference.
Solid at the back.
Jannik Vestergaard has had a good opening 20 minutes here. Firstly, the Dane has cleared many chances with his head and then played some key passes from the back.
Ings with a chance!
Great work again by Saints! Vestergaard with a great cross field pass to Walker-Peters who meets it on the run to get past the West Brom full back. Ings is then played in but is saved by Johnstone!
Armstrong in the action
The Scot has started well here by setting up Bertrand and creating his own chance moments later. Saints with 81% possession so far and the winger seems to be at the centre of it.
Bertrand with best chance
Nearing the ten minute mark here at St Mary's and Ryan Bertrand could have Saints 1-0 up. His shot though was at good height for Johnstone in the West Brom goal.
Armstrong gets a shot away
The Scot plays a great one-two with Danny Ings but Armstrong is well tracked and put under pressure so his shot goes wide for a goal-kick.
Bertrand with space...
Stuart Armstrong feeds in an unmarked Ryan Bertrand who has time inside the area but he hits it too close and at a comfortable height for West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone.

West Brom, led by Slaven Bilic (above), come into today's game without a win in their opening three games of the season. The newly promoted side led Chelsea 3-0 at half-time last week but had to settle for a 3-3 draw, which is their only point of the 20/21 campaign.
