Gutting for the visitors 💔

A yellow card for the City keeper for time wasting.
What a save McCarthy!
Jesus has a brilliant chance to confirm the win, but McCarthy spreads himself to divert the striker's shot over the bar.
Walker strikes late
McCarthy looks to have gotten something on Angelińo's cross, but it falls to Walker at the back post who slides in to volley home. Gutting for Saints.
GOAL
Kyle Walker (85’) | 2 – 1

Stephens to the rescue!
What a block from Jack Stephens! Agüero looked to have time to shoot from six yards, but the Saints defender gets across brilliantly to deflect the effort wide.
De Bruyne just wide
A let off for Saints... after conceding that bizarre indirect free-kick, De Bruyne flashes a curling effort just wide.
A bizarre free-kick conceded
Saints have an uncontested drop ball which is passed back to McCarthy, but the Saints stopper picks it up and concedes an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area!
Super stop from McCarthy!
Bernardo Silva hits one first time from inside the box, but McCarthy is perfectly placed to tip the ball over the bar.
Final 15 😬
Into the final quarter-of-an-hour. Dig deep, lads!
Agüero levels it up
Finally City find a way past Saints. Walker's low cross from the right is drilled into Agüero who fires through the legs of McCarthy.
GOAL
Sergio Agüero (70’) | 1 – 1

Big miss from Agüero!
Bernardo Silva's cross is perfect for Agüero just six yards out, but he gets under the ball and heads over.
Gündogan deflected wide
What a block from Ward-Prowse! The ball falls kindly to Gündogan on the edge of the box, but his driven effort is superbly deflected for a corner by the Saints man.
Ańgelino's cross threatens
The City full-back swings in a cross from the left that loops over McCarthy but thankfully drops wide of the far post.
Defence on 🔝
What an effort from Southampton so far. Alex McCarthy is yet to be called into meaningful action as the reigning champions continue to be frustrated.
Sterling thwarted
It looks to have opened up slightly for Sterling, but Saints are quick to close ranks and hack clear the danger.
As you were...
The second half is following the pattern of the first so far; City with all the possession, but continually frustrated by a disciplined Saints defence.

HALF TIME: Man City 0-1 Southampton
How about that, Saints fans? 😅 A brilliant opening 45 minutes from Ralph Hasenhüttl's men who stunned the hosts with Ward-Prowse's early opener, before defending resolutely.
Silva's shot deflected wide
It looked for a second to have opened up for David Silva, but his shot is blocked by Jack Stephens for a corner.
Ings fires from range
Saints hit City on the counter again, as this time Ings fires into the arms of Ederson from 25 yards.
Yellow Card for Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
Brilliant from Valery who strips the England winger of possession and then wins a foul as he looks to break away.
Stones heads over
Stones beats McCarthy to Gündogan's in-swinging cross, but thankfully for Saints he gets too much on it and it sails over.
Cool from McCarthy
Walker swings in a dangerous looking cross from deep, but McCarthy is off his line to calmly claim.
No way past ❌
Saints are looking disciplined at the back, with Bednarek and Romeu already putting in some vital blocks.
Corner number four...
City continue to press for an equaliser, but their latest quickly taken corner flies wide at the back post with several interested parties nearby.
A spell of City pressure
The hosts are camped in Southampton's half at the moment, but some heroic defending means Alex McCarthy is still yet to be called upon.
Things you love to see 😍
Ward-Prowse reels off in celebration after capitalising on Ederson's mistake.
A confident start
What a start this has been from the away side. Confident in possession and holding City at arm's length, Ralph Hasenhüttl's side are fully deserving of the lead.
Yellow Card for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Southampton)
The Saints captain goes into the book for bringing down Bernardo Silva 25 yards out from goal.
GET IN THERE PROWSEY!
Some brilliant build-up sees Redmond tee up Armstrong on the edge of the box, but Ederson can only spill his shot allowing Ward-Prowse the chance to lift the ball into the net from a few yards out!
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (13’) | 0 – 1
Agüero heads over
City win a free-kick wide out on the right, and from De Bruyne's delivery the diminutive Argentinean - who netted twice against Saints in midweek - glances a header a yard over the bar.
Some early possession for Saints
The visitors have enjoyed some good early possession at the Etihad, passing it around confidently. We're still yet to see either goalkeeper tested yet, though.
Gündogan blazes over
We have our first shot of the game, but it's not one to remember. Ilkay Gündogan hits one on the volley from 20 yards but it almost lands in the second tier behind the goal.
We're up and running! 🙌
The game is under way at the Etihad Stadium. COYR! 😇
The man you're most pleased to see! 😇
