Early years
Born in Słupca in April 1996, young Polish centre-back Bednarek spent the entirety of his career before joining Saints at Ekstraklasa side Lech Poznań, having broken through their academy ranks.
He made his first-team debut in 2013 at the age of 17, in a game Poznań won 2-0 against Piast Gliwice.
The 21-year-old spent the 2015/16 side on loan at Górnik Łęczna to gain valuable experience, making 17 appearances before returning to his parent club and becoming an integral asset at the heart of defence.
In the 2016/17 season, Bednarek made 31 appearances, scoring one goal as the side finished third in the Polish top-flight, while losing out in the Polish Cup final 2-1 to Arka Gdynia after extra time.
Football is clearly a passion that runs in the family, with older brother Filip also a professional goalkeeper.
A boyhood Lech Poznań fan, Bednarek supported the club in the away end against their rivals Legia Warsaw in October 2015, stating that he wanted to experience an away match from a different perspective.
Joining Saints
Bednarek signed for Southampton in July 2017, moving to the south coast on a five-year deal.
He made his debut in a home League Cup meeting with Wolves the following month, although had to wait until April 2018 for his first Premier League appearance, with Bednarek marking that moment with a goal in a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, at St Mary's.
He was a regular presence in the side for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign, playing a big part in Saints' dramatic escape from relegation.
Bednarek was not used so regularly at the start of the following season, but that all changed following the arrival of manager Ralph Hasenhüttl in December 2018, with Bednarek quickly becoming an established name in the starting XI each week, again aiding an upturn in fortunes that helped the club again survive.
International success
Internationally, Bednarek has played through all the young levels from under-16s for Poland, and started every game of the 2017 Under-21 European Championship, which included a game against an England side with four Saints.
Bednarek has also become an established part of the senior Poland side since moving to Saints, playing in all three of Poland's group matches at the 2018 World Cup, in which he netted the winning goal against Japan in their final game of the tournament.
Saints mainstay
Bednarek became a mainstay under Ralph Hasenhuttl in the 2019/20 season, making a total of 39 appearances which was only behind James Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings for the number of games played.
The centre-back scored his only goal of the season as he got Saints first in a 3-2 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
